Fall Festival

October 30th, 2009 at 01:03 am

We went to my kids fall festival today at school. $9 for three plates of spaghetti. $1 for two drinks and 14 pieces of candy from the hallway trick r treat. What really got me, other than me paying for all that, was the pumpkin auction. The different classes painted and decorated at least 20 pumpkins. There was a real auctioneer there getting the price up as high as he could. When the price was $5 to $20, I would bid, but they were getting rather pricey. $60 for a pumpkin painted black with white stripes to look like Darth Vader. A King Tut one went for $65. $105 for a pumpkin with a blonde wig that was meant to look like the principal. I do love my kids, but really. How on earth can you afford to pay that for a painted pumpkin? Yes, I wanted to buy the ones my children helped to do, but there's no way I can pay more than $20 for a piece of fruit I can only have for one season. I guess its a good thing I took pictures of all of them, so that I have the memories forever, and am only out ten bucks. Wish I could do more, but I think some of them were ridiculously high. HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

Those are some neat, albeit expensive, pumpkins. We'll have a pumpkins contest soon and I'm looking forward to it Smile

Very cute pumpkins. I assume this was a fundraiser for the school. Maybe you could suggest a raffle for future years to give everyone a better chance of winning! Or it would feel that way, since you wouldn't know who spent how much on raffle tickets. Each pumpkins gets it own jar, so you can put your raffle tickets in the one you would like to win.

You could buy a $3.00 pumpkin and copy one of them.

I'll keep my pictures. I sent them to my mom telling her about how mine won't rot! Ha. I do believe it was the principal's husband who bought her(s) for $105. Everything they do there is a fundraiser. I am just glad that some people are able to give to my kids even when I can't. I know the money goes to more than we think.

Those are some very creative pumpkins. Yes, a bit pricey!

I used to go buy a whole truckload for my harvest parties at $30 for the thing to be topped over! Made for lots for decorating and all the kiddies got to take one home.

Hey, if it was a fundraiser that actually goes to the school, then GREAT that it would lead people to pay that much! Not everyone will be able to afford $100+ for a pumpkin (I sure can't), but if there are people who can, then it is just insurance for the school funding. In some parts of the country, that is really hard to come by!
