Money Money Money

March 3rd, 2008 at 05:46 pm

I paid down a credit card, so I want to spend.
I was thinking about getting my hair done at the beauty college tonight, before work.
Would going to a school for a discounted doo be saving money? NO, I could go without the hair dye and be fine, but not happy.
Does everything I do need money? YES, but I don't need everything.

Going to the school definitely is a savings if you normally go to a salon. I dye my own hair, but I do get hair cuts from school like you're talking about. The best thing that they have is the classes that only teach facials and manicures and pedicures. You can get a manual facial for about %3.50 and one done by a machine for $7.00 Either way, it's great. I don't do this often, but ever so often I treat myself when I have finished a project or something that needed to be done.

I agree with Aleta. Anytime you find a cheaper way to do something or get something, it does represent a savings. The exception would be if it is something you don't need in the first place. But obviously people need to get haircuts from time to time. If it isn't something you are able to do yourself, then finding the cheapest place to have it done is the goal.

To no avail. The beauty college is not open on Mondays for services, only classes.

Try looking for a publicly funded school such as a technology school. I'm concerned about some shops and their sanitary practices, but the schools are real watchdogs about that sort of thing.

For the most part, I've had really good results. A good practice is to take a picture with you of the haircut and many times the teacher will give someone to you with the experience to do the cut.

It might be a good idea to consider getting a low-maintenance cut. Maybe get your hair dyed back to your real color so you don't have to keep paying to maintain it. Haircuts can be really expensive, especially for women. The savings you realize could go towards that rainy day. Too many people have little to no savings and a single event can wipe them out and cause years of hardship.
