Weight and Money

March 2nd, 2008 at 03:55 am

I have been reading several people's blogs that incorporate their weight loss goals with their money saving goals.
I wish that I could save more and loose more at the same time.
If I could do everything I wanted, I wouldn't need this site. I am more worried about my financial health than my actual health. Is that scary?
I can't help it.
I know that I am overweight. I am about 75 lbs from being "normal for my height" right now. I don't starve myself, and I think that is why I still weigh the same as I do now.
I also know that my birth control choice is hindering my weight loss process. I would rather be fat than pregnant. Can't help the way I feel about it.
I don't think that I will be putting my weight loss goals on this site, as that is way too much for me to think about right now. If I can afford to eat, this site is doing it's job.

The IUD is a great from of birth control and it doesn't cause weight gain. Also, they have one called the Mirena that stops monthly cycles - another bonus! I was overweight in my early 30's and was threatened with diabetes - I had no choice but to lose the weight and it wasn't easy. High protein and low carb diets do work. When we are stressed out we tend to reach for those high carb feel good foods; now they just make me tired when I eat them. It has to be a lifestyle change and it makes everything else in your life better ... just hard getting there sometimes.

Reaching any goal is most successful when you remember one step at a time. I find if I don't focus on 75 lbs..but rather, one flight of stairs extra today...or water instead of soda for today...or some other single focus...It is more doable for me. But everyone has to find their own way. You are tackling the money issues..I hope your success gives you the incentive to achieve your other goals in life too! Good luck to you!

"I am more worried about my financial health than my actual health."

I think the two are more closely related than most people realize. Many people suffer ill health because of constant worry over their finances. Depression is quite common among people in bad financial health, for example. Also, many people having money trouble find it is in part due to too much eating out, fast food, processed foods, junk food, alcohol, cigarettes, etc. Cutting back on all of those things helps both the financial health and the physical health. So I think addressing the financial end of things often has an added benefit of helping the physical (and mental ) health, too.

I think bc pills have come a long way in recent years. There are many varieties available, and you should be able to find one, with your doc's help, that doesn't cause weight gain.

i don't use birth control pills, injections or implanons and i don't think i ever will. the whole thing makes me feel queasy just thinking about it. i realise i probably sound like a hippy, but i just can't bring myself to take something that alters something that is natural in my body.

and in case you are all wondering, no i have never had a pregnancy scare either.
